First off, sorry I couldn't email yesterday. The library was closed for memorial day, so I am writing TODAY!
Sorry if this letter is really scrambled. A lot of things happened and I have no clue how to connect them. So, here it is:
The week started of super awesome because I got to go to the BEACH and a lighthouse! The place is called El Faro which literally means, "the lighthouse". It was beautiful as you can hopefully see from the pictures!
Okay, here's the thing. It's mango season. And I LOVE mangoes. Like you can literally just pick up mangoes off the street and eat them because there are so. many. mangoes. It's great. And, well, they are Puerto Rican mangoes, which makes it even better.
I also got to hold puppies this week. A family we visit has a dog who just had puppies a couple weeks ago, we got to hold them, and they are just the sweetest little fluffy things. My life was made at that moment.
Funny moments. Well, let me just tell you we meet some great people on the street here in Cabo Rojo. For example. We were contacting (where we just walk around and talk to everyone who passes by) and we ran into this man. His name is "vida"which he pointed out means "life" in Spanish. He told us that he was a rapper and then he just rapped for us right there in the street. Apparently he performs and everyone knows him. The funny part is that he's 50 years old. He doesn't look like it, but he is. So, this week we met vida. The 50 year old rapper.
My Spanish is getting better every day. In our district meetings every week with the missionaries here in Cabo Rojo we share milagros (miracles) that happened during the week. One of the missionary's miracle was that I have learned Spanish rapidly. He said that it has been cool to see how fast I have learned. This week I have tried to just open my mouth. Through this I have truly learned that the Lord blesses us with what to say as we open our mouths. So many times the words just come and I know then that I am relying on the spirit to tell me what to say. On Sunday I had a 15 minute part of a lesson all in Spanish. It was the most nerve wracking thing to stand up in front of a bunch of people and give a lesson. I am fine when it comes to just teaching a family, but this was a group of people. Even though it was super intimidating I conquered my fear and they all understood me. One of the ladies even quoted me yesterday when we visited her house. She remembered what I said and applied it to our lesson! Read Matthew 10:19-20. I have a firm testimony of this scripture. I know that as we study in our own language and learn doctrine and also work on the language you are learning the spirit will help you with what you need as you are obedient. Just Talk.
I love you all. Thank you so much for your support, examples and your LETTERS! It is so fun to hear about what you all do! Stay strong!
Love,
Hermana VanKammen
