Hola Amigitos y Familia,
So, yay for city life! First of all, I went to San Juan this week on and exchange. I didn't know how much I missed the city until I got there. The lights, the people, the tall building! Ahhh :) My companion told the other sisters that I wouldn't want to leave after the exchange. She was partly right. It was so beautiful! I do like my Chicago town, though. The skyscrapers are way taller :) But, during the exchange we visited a guy who had his garden across the street from his house! Her grew everything, Yucca, avocado, pineapple etc. And, he grows sugar cane :) It looks like bamboo...and then you peel off the outside and bite the white inside and its super sweet :) So, yay for new things too!
Second of all, yay for the mission! We had so many awesome experiences. We met a ton of new people. One was a girl, probably about our age. We found her about a week ago, and just talked to her on the street. She said we could come back another day and share with her. Well, we went back at the beginning of the week. Sometimes when we try to come back and they aren't there, but she was there! And she got her mom and they both listened to our message. This girl said she had never really been to church, and she wanted to learn more, and her mom is all for the "Palabra de Dios" (aka, the word of god), so we are now teaching them. Well, we also met another lady just sitting outside her house about a week and a half ago, and my companion and I just decided to talk to her. We noticed she looked kind of lonely, and she had a little boy. Perfect people to teach the gospel. She said we could come back in the afternoon one day when her husband was home so we could listen. Well, we had some member with us 2 days ago, and our appointment fell through, so we went to visit her. Her husband was washing the car, but she invited us all in to share our message. We sang "I am a Child of God" (a children's song) and she just started crying. She loved how she felt - so much peace and happiness when we entered. Her kids were calm after that and they all listened to our message. After learning about the restoration she said she wanted to read the book of Mormon, and learn more about how she could feel that peace. SUPER AWESOME RIGHT! This was like a missioanries dream! We found a ton of people like that this week. I know that this area is being prepared to grow and learn more about this gospel. I mean, there ARE 6 missionaries working here.
So, anyway, life is just great! My companion and I are working super hard here. I hope all of you are enjoying the weather! (I hear there's snow :D)
Keep being AWESOME!
Love,
Hermana VanKammen
