Well Hola familia!
Como están!? So, I have officially gone through one transfer here in the mission field! My companion and I are staying together for another 6 weeks. So, I will finish my 12 weeks of training with her. I love this area of Cabo Rojo so much! And that is just an understatement. We have such great ward members in this area, such great missionaries that are serving here, and the people here are so ready to hear the gospel.
This week, as we prepared for the idea that one of us might end up leaving, we really tried to strengthen the ward members and less actives. There is such power in members. I know I keep saying it, but it is so true. Members are the key, and missionaries can't get through doors without the key. Sure, we can talk to people, we can strengthen people, but we can't have people progress without the ward. We have seen so much success with our investigators that have friends in church. It helps them feel loved and included.
Okay, now a couple really funny things happened this week that I feel like you will all enjoy. You see, first of all, there is this dog. (side note: EVERYONE has a dog here) So, our neighbor next door has this adorable little dog and well, he was just chilling outside the apartment one day when we came home, so she kind of came into our apartment, and we kind of played with her and well, she kind of loves us, and we love her. So, we had a dog for a few minutes :) Also, I am being taught Spanish....by a 3 year old. She is absolutely adorable and we read those little baby books that show a picture and then the word on one page. So, she had me recite the word and if I pronounced it wrong she would correct me. If I said it right she would say, "Okay, bien" and we would move on. So, I am going to be awesome at saying animals and fruits and vegetables :)
This week, I would encourage all of you to read 2 Nephi chapter 31. It is a great chapter about the doctrine of Christ. There is no other way to enter the Kingdom of God except through baptism by the authority of Jesus Christ. He is the way for us to return to our Heavenly Father, and we must help others to come unto Christ. I know that this is true. I know that through Jesus Christ, his atonement, and sacrifice, we can have eternal joy.
Love you all,
Hermana VanKammen
