As the time for my departure gets closer, I wanted to share this quote that the president of the Illinois Chicago West Mission shared with me. I edited it and put it here on the left.
Basically, my mission is going to be the hardest thing I have ever done. I have to learn a totally new language in a 6 week crash course before I am forced to be immersed in speaking the language, I have to go to a foreign land all by myself, I have to defy all social norms, and my testimony will be tried and tested as I share my love for the Gospel of Jesus Christ. While I have no clue what to expect, and have never learned Spanish in my entire life, I know that with God on my side, I can do it. God trusts me enough to call me on a mission to teach His people, and He would never let me put the lives of His children in Jeopardy if He knew I couldn't do it.
My mission is going to be hard. I know that. But through the struggles and challenges, I also know that I will be strengthened. I will be able to see the light of Christ in everyone and I will have the strength to move forward. I will put my whole heart and soul out in Puerto Rico, and as President Hinkley's father said, I will "Forget myself and go to work!"
